Women in Transport launches in Scotland

By Becki Cox

Women in Transport are officially crossing the border with the establishment of an exciting new Scotland hub. The global pandemic has impacted transport in a myriad of ways, drawing attention to issues ranging from transport inequality to emissions, the accessibility of streets for active travel to the future of public transport. With the recent launch of the Scotland National Transport Strategy and the eyes of the world on Glasgow as the COP26 conference meets in November, there has never been a more exciting or pivotal time for transport in Scotland.

The Scotland hub has been sponsored by Transport Scotland, Network Rail and Momentum Transport Consultancy. It will be coordinated by longstanding Women in Transport Board member Mailys Garden alongside a committee of existing and new Women in Transport members. We warmly welcome membership applications from women and men working in transport in Scotland.

It is now possible to select “Scotland” under region when joining as a Women in Transport member so please spread the word if your organisation has a Scotland branch. There is a LinkedIn group, which everyone is invited to join ahead of our official launch later this month. More information will be available on the Women in Transport website soon. Enquiries about corporate membership and partnerships can be made by emailing scotland@womenintransport.com.

The launch event will take place virtually on Thursday 25 March at 5pm on Zoom – watch this space for more details including how to register!

Annual membership of Women in Transport is £60 per year providing access to professional development and networking opportunities. Benefits of membership are open to all regardless of region. By selecting a specific region when you join, 75% of your membership fee will be allocated to that region for local events, projects and activities.
