Recently Women in Transport members gathered in the Rail Delivery Group’s offices in London Wall for an evening seminar and workshop on ‘Managing Stress & Anxiety,’ led by John Manning .
Jon Manning is the Managing Director of Arthur Ellis Mental Health Support, a not-for-profit organisation he founded, following his diagnosis of bipolar disorder, to train management, employees, parents, children and teachers how to identify and tackle mental health issues.

Women in Transport’s Autumn Reception put the spotlight on our progress on gender parity. We spent a lively evening discussing what has been achieved so far, our future aspirations and how we can progress on gender parity. The event, on a subject that raises many questions, emotions and challenges, attracted more than 100 guests and was generously hosted by Arup.
Read moreThe Power Road bridge, which carries the four lane A406 North Circular Road over the railway, is being replaced by Transport for London and the HOCHTIEF UK project team. This is a critical section of the TfL network at the junction of the M4/A4 and both the North & South Circular road. The project has involved major challenges; not least keeping the A406 open with 3 lanes while works were being carried out and keeping disruption to a minimum.
Women in Transport were delighted to be invited to take a tour of the site and learn more about this £35m project which began four years ago and is due to be completed by summer 2019.

You may recall a while ago that we asked Women in Transport members to encourage their children to participate in Transport for London's (TfL) children’s book competition, telling the stories of Women in Transport. It was organised in partnership with British book printing institution Clays and is part of the Mayor of London’s #BehindEveryGreatCity, marking the centenary of the first women in the UK winning the right to vote.
The competition, which included three different age categories, asked children to use their imaginations to draw a picture or write a story about how women at TfL keep London moving.
From more than 600 entries, from all over London, TfL has just announced the winners.

At the recent Aviation Festival in London, to support diversity in both the transport and travel and sectors, Women in Transport members were invited to attend a Women in Aviation Mixer.
Not only was this an excellent opportunity to meet people in a range of roles across the travel and transport industries but we also got to hear inspiring speeches from Bonny Simi, President of Jetblue Ventures and Chris Browne, Chief Operating Officer of Easyjet.

We were also very fortunate to be accompanied for part of the tour by the Project Manager, Lih Ling Highe, who gave us a real insight into her work with Crossrail over the past 9 years.

Women in Transport members gathered at Momentum Transport Consultancy’s offices for an evening seminar led by Tamsen Garrie on ‘Learning the Art of conversation’.
Tamsen opened her talk by pointing out that conversation is a skill that can be acquired and refined, and that we can all benefit from it by creating environments and relationships conducive to success.

Camilla Ween is a Harvard Loeb Fellow and a Built Environment Expert at the Design Council. She is an architect and urbanist. Camilla worked for Transport for London for 11 years advising on the integration of transport with land use development and policy. She is currently a director of Goldstein Ween Architects, working on urban planning and transportation projects world-wide for public and private sector clients.

Read moreOnce again, thanks to our hosts Arriva, we were able to offer members the chance to try their hand at driving a London bus. This very popular event has now become a fixture on the Women in Transport events calendar and we can safely predict all places being snapped up in twenty minutes.
On a sunny summer morning we were met at Tottenham Hale, by Nisha Ladkea, the Arriva instructor, who drove us in the double decker training bus to Edmonton Bus depot where it was the turn of members to get behind the wheel.

I am a project manager responsible for the delivery of transport planning and highway design inputs to planning applications, masterplans and feasibility studies. As I work in a private consultancy this involves liaising with clients, design teams and local authorities and, internally, coordinating the efforts of multi-disciplinary teams.

At this stage in my career I’m usually either leading a team of architects and assistant architects and interfacing with other disciplines, or managing a multidisciplinary team to deliver transport related projects. I also occasionally help on bids relevant to my skills and/or experience.

Last month, Women in Transport held its first event in partnership with Women in Health and Safety when nearly 200 men and women gathered at UBM's headquarters to enjoy an evening of networking, a lively panel discussion and some breath-taking views over St Paul’s and the Thames.

I’m the owner of a boutique consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, policy, public affairs and gender diversity for the transport and infrastructure sectors.
We’re currently involved in stakeholder engagement for a range of large, and small, transport infrastructure schemes, as well as research and campaigns for non-profits in the sector. We also advise transport companies on how to achieve a more gender-balanced team.

Congratulations to Women in Transport board member, Lauren Sager Weinstein, who has been presented with the award of UK Chief Data Officer of the Year by CDO Club, the world's largest community of C-suite digital and data leaders.
This is the second accolade Lauren has achieved in one month, having just been named by Data IQ as the 7th most influential person in the data driven business.
