Last week, we gathered together with our members and supporters at Lewis Silkin in Chancery Lane for our annual mince pies and networking event to celebrate another very successful year for Women in Transport.
This year we have continued to develop and progress our network and we are very proud of the incredible group of volunteers that is helping deliver our ambitious plans.
Our president, Katie Hulland, shared some of the major highlights of the year, including our first steps in increasing our representation outside of London. We have been delighted to set up a corporate membership for Nexus in Newcastle and to create a partnership that will support women in transport in the north east of England. This partnership will be a pilot for our planned expansion into the many regions in the UK where we have been asked to support women in the transport sector.
We have also hosted well attended networking sessions with panel discussions and high profile speakers from the industry and a reception of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Transport on the Terrace at the House of Commons. As always, we ran a wide range of site visits and workshops giving members unique opportunities such as driving buses, tubes and experiencing the training at London Underground’s Emergency Response Unit.
The end of the year also concludes the first phase of our very successful mentoring programme, which we ran as a pilot in 2018, led by vice president, Sonya Veerasamy, and Angela Gainsford. Sonya went on to say that, thanks to the success of the first year, we had secured sponsorship to continue with a second, expanded programme which would start in the new year. The evening was an opportunity for our newly matched pairs to meet informally and network ahead of formal mentoring sessions in the New Year.
It has been a truly remarkable year and the evening was a fitting celebration. We are looking forward to an exciting line up of events in 2019 delivered by our events team, led by Dorota Konieczna. Details of next year's events will be published soon. In the meantime, please follow us @transportwm and on Linkedin to stay up to date with the latest news.
Our thanks to Lewis Silkin as ever for their continued generosity and support and for hosting another wonderful annual celebration.
