Women in Transport board member Anna Delvecchio makes history with inclusion at London Transport Museum

Anna Delvecchio, one of our brilliant Women in Transport board members, has received unique recognition from the Rail Supply Group at the London Transport Museum. Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman of Network Rail and trustee of the Museum, along with Rail Minster Andrew Jones, unveiled a portrait of Anna at a Rail Supply Group Reception on 17 June 2019. Anna’s picture will now hang in the museum to inspire future generations of engineers and transport professionals.

Strategic Transport Apprenticeship Taskforce launches Year of Diversity for Logistics and Transport.

2019 is the DfT Strategic Transport Apprenticeship Workforce (STAT) Year of Diversity for logistics and transport. STAT is a voluntary, cross-sector industry body that has been given the responsibility for promoting awareness and access to apprenticeships, sector diversity and transport as a career.

Launching the Year of Diversity at Portcullis House on 30 May, senior representatives from across the transport and logistics industry were asked to sign a pledge and help build a tool-kit for the future of inclusion in the sector.

Supporting future women leaders - a new toolkit

Women in Transport is often approached by businesses looking for practical ways to support and advance women in the transport sector. The Our Time toolkit is a free resource launched by the Mayor of London, developed in collaboration with Deloitte and the Greater London Authority functional bodies, to do just this. The Mayor would like to see it adopted across workplaces in London.

Inspirational ATA Female Pilots Honoured

Hatfield based bus company, Uno Buses, commemorated the inspirational women of the Air Transport Auxiliary at the launch of its new bus brand tigermoth on Monday 4 February 2019. The ladies broke into the all-male world of military flying, something that is now cited as an important chapter in both aviation and women's history and remains an inspiration to a new generation of women and girls.

The Power Road bridge installation site visit

The Power Road bridge, which carries the four lane A406 North Circular Road over the railway, is being replaced by Transport for London and the HOCHTIEF UK project team. This is a critical section of the TfL network at the junction of the M4/A4 and both the North & South Circular road. The project has involved major challenges; not least keeping the A406 open with 3 lanes while works were being carried out and keeping disruption to a minimum.

Women in Transport were delighted to be invited to take a tour of the site and learn more about this £35m project which began four years ago and is due to be completed by summer 2019.
