Last week Women in Transport officially launched its latest hub in the North West of England.
The launch was marked with a networking event in partnership with Taylor Woodrow and AECOM in the latter’s offices in Liverpool.
The event explored the topic of Women’s Safety and Health at Work, identifying some of the challenges currently experienced by women in the workplace and sharing best practices to remove barriers to workplace equity.
Attendees heard from speakers including Kelly Tanner, Communications Manager at Taylor Woodrow; Louise Kenny, Business Performance and Improvements Manager at Colas; Vicki Glover, HR Director at Kier Highways and Jennie Harrison, Civil Engineer at AECOM.
The keynote was delivered by Cass Potter, Director at Bakerfish.
The presentations were followed by informal networking.
Joanna Hill, North West Regional Lead at Women in Transport, said: “The launch event was a great success, we had nearly 50 people join us from across the industry to network, learn and share in an incredible venue. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make this first event such a great success, and to the speakers, for many of whom this was their first solo speaking experience, for sharing their insights and experiences with us all. It was motivational and inspiring. The event could not have happened without the support of Taylor Woodrow and AECOM, and sponsor organisations Kier Highways and HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd.”
Women in Transport’s vision for the North West Hub is to create a place of support, learning and friendship for women in transport and their allies in the North West through a calendar of virtual and in-person events. And to grow the membership base in the region.
Joanna continues: “In the longer term, our wish is to engage with regional businesses and other organisations to identify the barriers to equitable workplaces and provide safe spaces to host courageous conversations that promote change and raise organisational standards to ensure everyone can thrive. We kickstarted this mission at the launch event by asking thoughtful questions and encouraging attendees to take a closer look at how equitable their workplaces are.”
The hub already has several future events in the pipeline, including a roundtable discussion around the Motherhood Penalty, an invite-only event hosted in partnership with Kier Highways. This event is part of a broader series of events around the Motherhood Penalty theme including a podcast and book club.
