At Transport for Wales (TfW), we’re committed to being an inclusive workplace with a diverse workforce. We want to encourage our people to develop their talents, create and add value to the organisation and deliver an excellent service for our customers and communities.
We believe that TfW should represent the communities it serves and be an environment where differences are celebrated.
1. We’re committed to increasing the number of women and underrepresented groups in train driving and engineering positions.
2. We’re committed to being fair to everyone and having equal representation across these grades, making sure our workforce is reflective of the diverse population we serve.
Engaging with potential talent is crucial to our success, and we know that we must do it in different ways. That's why we organised a series of hiring events throughout September, where we invited people to learn how to be part of our journey to create an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of. Held in our Cardiff office, these events gave attendees the opportunity to speak with colleagues in various roles and industry and educational representatives, try our state-of-the-art train simulators, learn more about our driver academy program - The Train Drivers Academy - and explore our current vacancies and career pathways.
Tina Rees, Head of Shared Services, was thrilled to see the enthusiasm of the attendees. She said, “It was fantastic to see how far people had come to travel just to be a part of the event. There were people who attended with families, and they made a whole day of the event which is exactly the kind of engagement we wanted”.
We’re now planning to expand these hiring events to other areas of Wales, especially in North Wales and areas with underrepresented groups. We are confident that this will help us reach more talented individuals who share our passion for creating a better future for transport in Wales.
