Congratulations to Neil Pepper MBE who has just won The European Women In Construction & Engineering (WICE) Awards for Best Male Mentor 2020.
Neil is a volunteer board member for Women in Transport, a Night Construction Manager in Renewals and Enhancements at London Underground and a passionate STEM ambassador.
In this wonderful video Neil and his mentee, Milda Pladaite, share their experience of mentoring and Neil talks about why he feels being a male ally and mentor is so important.
The aim of the WICE Awards is to make construction and engineering more enticing to women, to create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries.
Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9% of UK engineering professionals are women.
Congratulations to all the Award winners. We are also thrilled that Victoria Sutherland, a Women in Transport members from Mott MacDonald was awarded Best Woman Rail Engineer 2020.
