In our latest member insight blog, Jesse Hicks tells us what she likes about working in the transport sector, what her job involves and why she joined Women in Transport.
What does your current job involve?
Iām a Bid Manager at AGS One. We provide specialist cleaning, surface renovation and safety-critical labour in partnership with public sector and public transport organisations. I am responsible for managing and writing bids, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, creating and nurturing client relationships and all aspects of PR and Marketing.
What's the best thing about your job?
The variety of projects and clients. I am constantly learning new things about the various industries AGS One works in and around.
How did you become involved in the transport industry?
I was approached by a head-hunting firm who told me that AGS was looking for a Bid Manager to be involved in expanding their brand. The role sounded interesting and varied and it was also in an industry in which I had limited involvement. I took a chance and met with James and Andrew and here we are just over a year later!
What do you like about working in transport?
The fast pace, the variety of companies and people. I also like the fact that the industry is always looking to improve and strives to be more efficient in many ways, such as environmentally, and its approach to diversity. There's also great support with training.
What are you most proud of?
My ability to learn the industry in a short space of time, enabling me to work on some business critical tenders and build our company profile.
Why did you join Women in Transport?
To meet people from across the sector, to learn from its members and to promote modernisation within the industry.
What do you enjoy most about being a member of Women in Transport?
The variety of members, the events and the support given.
