Note: Our Live Networking Event is changing to a monthly event, to be held every second Wednesday of the month.
Networking is a very important part of supporting our Women in Transport members, especially during these difficult and uncertain times.
Our regular live Zoom sessions have become a regular feature on the Women in Transport calendar and we hope you will join us for our next virtual meet up.
At our recent sessions we have been delighted to get to know some of our members better.
These conversations are providing an opportunity to share and learn from each other's experiences on topics ranging from the Covid-19 pandemic, through a range of issues such as the progress of ED & I, the role of male allies, how women can help each other advance their careers and whether remote working is the way forward.
Masks on Public Transport - Should they be legally mandated?
Since covid restrictions were eased in July, wearing a face covering on TfL services has been a “condition of carriage” but not a legal requirement, meaning fines cannot be imposed for non-compliance.
Sadiq Khan, London’s mayor, has called for not wearing a face mask on London Transport to become a criminal offence (unless medically exempt) as a measure to reduce the risk of spreading covid and increase public confidence in using the services.
Public support for mask wearing in indoor spaces appears to be high, but, whilst TfL says that compliance with face coverings remains high, many passengers say they have seen a drop in the number of people wearing masks on public transport.
There can also be confusion when travelling across different transport modes where some public transport services only advise passengers to wear face coverings but do not make them mandatory.
Do you think not wearing a mask should be a criminal offence? If so, is it fair to do so only in one transport area like London or should it be a national requirement? And will it prevent people travelling who have a medical condition that precludes them wearing a mask?
Come along to our new Monthly Live Networking session on Wednesday 8th September and have your say.
These sessions are always very enjoyable and we feel this is a great way to engage and support each other, so we do hope you will be able to join us.
Please note that, as we have limited time and to avoid disturbing the discussion, you will not be able access the session after 5.10pm, so please join promptly.
We look forward to talking to you there.
This event is only open to Women in Transport members .
