The APPG for Women in Transport submitted our response to the A Railway Fit for Britain’s Future Consultation, shaped by a powerful roundtable held in Parliament last month focused on women’s safety in transport.
We brought together voices from across the sector to share expertise, experience, and solutions. Our key recommendations highlight the importance of:
• A multi-modal approach to ensure end-to-end safety
• Well-maintained equipment and public spaces that feel safe and welcoming
• A diverse workforce – because representation drives safety and inclusion
• Innovative technology that empowers staff and passengers
• Staff visibility and training to build trust and swift response
• Responsible behaviour and active bystanders to create a safer culture
• Learning from best practice here and abroad
• Understanding that safety needs vary by geography and community
• And above all – recognising that safety is for everyone
Thank you to all who contributed to this vital conversation. Together, we're making transport work better for everyone.
