Women in Transport are launching a virtual book club and invite you to be part of the first Zoom meeting.
This session will focus on the best-selling book, Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez.
'From government policy and medical research, to technology, workplaces, and the media. Invisible Women reveals how in a world built for and by men we are systematically ignoring half of the population, often with disastrous consequences.'
The stories of data bias highlighted within this book have resonated with a number of members already. We would like to provide an opportunity to explore its arguments through group discussion. Applications to transport will also be examined, including how bias may be better recognised and addressed within the industry.
There will also be opportunity to provide input on future book club meetings {possibly in-person) and reading materials. If you would like to provide input but cannot attend the first meeting, please submit any suggestions here.
The book club is only open to Women in Transport members. This session is a test event as this is our first time launching a virtual book club, so we have limited places to 20 members. If the session proves popular and the format works well, we will look at running more sessions so we can open up this networking opportunity to more members. We will also consider running multiple breakout rooms in Zoom. There is no charge for this event.
If you are unable to attend this time, we will record the session and the discussion points and share these with the membership network.
