There are few people living in Tyne and Wear whose daily lives are not touched in some way by Nexus, the organisation that provides, plans and promotes public transport in the North East of England.
It is the task of Nexus to improve the quality of life and the economic prosperity in Tyne and Wear, by creating better transport networks that people will want to use for decades to come.
Women in Transport has been delighted to welcome many of the women who are part of the Nexus workforce as members. We look forward to working in partnership with Nexus in setting up a branch of Women in Transport in Newcastle that will support women working in the transport sector in the North East and promote the wonderful range of career opportunities available to women in the transport industry.
At the launch of this exciting new initiative there will be a panel debate and a Q&A session followed by networking and light refreshments. This will be an opportunity to find out how people and organisations in the North East region can get involved in Women in Transport.
The speakers at the event, who will be talking about their career successes and challenges, include
Chi Onwurah MP, who, as a chartered engineer has campaigned to make ICT and engineering more accessible to all, particularly girls, and to bring engineering and ICT jobs to the North East. Chi is the Labour Party's Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation.
Arlene Ainsley, a councillor at Newcastle City Council and Cabinet Member for Transport and Air Quality. She has also served as a Councillor in North Tyneside and helped lead the Tony Blair Foundation.
Rachel Heath, who is currently Programme Manager with Switches and Crossing North Alliances, responsible for track switches and crossings HS2 enabling works in the Midlands.
We have a limited number of invitations to this event. If you would like to attend or if you can help with organising future events or support the development of our partnership with the North East in any way, please email us at info@womenintransport.com
