Our CEO, Sonya Byers, shares some highlights from an exceptional year for Women in Transport.

“At Women in Transport we were disappointed to find out that due to uncertainty around long term funding, Transport for London (TfL) may have to enter a phase of managed decline in an attempt to balance its books.

Jo Field, Founder and Chief Executive of JFG Communications and President of Women in Transport, has won the prestigious ‘Consultant of the Year’ award at this year’s PRCA Public Affairs Awards. The judges were impressed by Jo’s contribution to transport public affairs, in particular her tireless campaigning for a more gender balanced transport workforce and her dedication to setting up and scaling her agency, JFG Communications.

All companies with over 250 employees had to report the gender pay gap within their organisation by the 5th of October. At Women in Transport, we are disappointed to learn that the average gender pay gap for all firms has not improved since 2019-20, remaining at 10.4%.

Applications for our Advance 2022 mentoring programme are now open for mentees and mentors. This programme has been designed by Women in Transport to support the professional development of our members through structured, professional mentoring. Women in Transport President, Jo Field, responds to the UK's HGV driver shortage stating that the problem is a simple one; we don’t have enough drivers to transport our goods. To tackle this issue, we need to attract more workers into the haulage industry, an issue addressed in our ‘Gender perceptions and experiences working in transport’ whitepaper, published earlier this year.

Women in Transport is delighted to welcome Amazon as our newest corporate partner and to be working together to raise awareness of their Delivery Service Partner (DSP) programme to more women. Amazon is looking for hands-on owners who are passionate about building and developing great teams. With low startup costs and access to Amazon's technology and logistics experience, this is an opportunity for women to build and grow a successful parcel delivery business.

Innovate UK, in partnership with Crossrail International and the Department for International Trade, is to invest £750,000 (including VAT) in innovative rail solutions in spaces including digital innovation, operational efficiency, station security and more.

Transit data experts, Ito World, have launched the #ItoWomen Campaign to inspire, mentor and champion women looking to work, or working in, the technology and transport industries. The campaign will highlight the unique career journeys of women at Ito World. Ito World is Flexa certified as a truly flexible employer and joined Women in Transport as a corporate member this month.
